High Performance Computing

Marquette University high performance computing (HPC) resources, including the Pere cluster and the academic data center, is managed by the Research Computing Support (RCS) group within IT Services. The mission of RCS is to enable and support advanced computational research and to promote STEM education through the provision of an advanced cyberinfrastructure.

In aligning with the university's strategic plan to promote research and scholarship, the University has made the HPC resources and freely available to all Marquette member. To get started, please first follow the Request an HPC account link to summit your HPC account application.

HPC Committee formed to advance research computing and address HPC-related issues3/21/2013

Last spring, HPC users were invited to participate in one or more meetings hosted by the HPC Task Force, to identify bottlenecks in current HPC resources and to begin charting future HPC needs on campus. As part of this effort, the task force recommended the formation of an HPC Governance Committee to advance research computing resources at Marquette and to address HPC-related issues.

Based on these recommendations, a standing governance committee was formed in January consisting of four faculty representatives and two representatives from information technology services. The representatives include,
Scott Beardsley  - Biomedical Engineering
Praveen Madiraju  - Math, Statistics, and Computer Science
Shane Hesprich – ITS Research Engineer
Qadir Timerghazin  - Chemistry
Taly Gilat-Schmidt - Biomedical Engineering
Adam Garshan – ITS Systems Manager
Part of the committee's charge is to,
1) identify current HPC operational issues and user concerns, and recommend feasible solutions;
2) identify priorities and opportunities for improving HPC resources at Marquette
3) facilitate interactions within the HPC community at Marquette and identify new faculty and emerging research projects that would benefit from HPC resources.
As the committee works to implement these charges, all HPC users are encouraged to communicate their suggestions for improving HPC resources and general concerns to committee members.
